What scholarships did you receive and why did you receive them? How has the financial support impacted your experience at NIU?
As a graduate student, I feel grateful to have been awarded with three scholarships: a graduate teaching assistant scholarship, the OM&IS Faculty Scholarship and the Business Enterprise Computing Scholarship. These scholarships have not only alleviated a significant portion of my financial burden, covering nearly 60% of my overall fees, but have also transformed my experience at NIU in profound ways. The financial support has been a lifeline, allowing me to shift my focus from financial worries to academic pursuits. It has reduced the stress that often accompanies graduate studies, giving me the peace of mind to delve deeper into my research and coursework. Beyond the financial benefits, these scholarships have opened doors to invaluable opportunities for growth. I have had the privilege of working closely with esteemed professors, collaborating with talented students and attending enriching workshops. These experiences have not only enriched my academic journey, but have also fostered my professional development, equipping me with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in my field. What I cherish most about these scholarships is the recognition they bring to my academic achievements. It is heartening to know that my hard work and dedication have been acknowledged and valued by the university. This recognition serves as a powerful motivator, encouraging me to continue striving for excellence and pushing the boundaries of what I can achieve. Ultimately, these scholarships have been more than just financial aid; they have shown me the impact of support and encouragement in helping me reach my full potential.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? Are you pursuing that as a major, or have you taken another path?
As a kid, I wanted to be everything from a superhero to an astronaut; basically, anything that sounded cool and didn't involve too much homework. However, my perspective began to shift as I grew older, along with rapid changes in technology and business. I was drawn toward these, and I am pursuing the same as my major. This path has allowed me to leverage my strengths and explore the exciting intersection of technology and management. While my childhood dreams may have evolved, they laid the foundation for my current journey, and I am excited to see where this path takes me.

What is your major (and/or minor) and why did you decide on this course of study?
Growing up, I had a front-row seat to watch my father's operations business grow and thrive. This sparked a deep fascination with the term business, igniting a curiosity that only grew stronger over time. As I progressed through my undergraduate studies, I discovered a new passion for technology, which not only complemented my existing interests, but also opened up exciting possibilities of combining technology with business. Today, I am pursuing a master’s degree in management information systems (MIS), a field that perfectly aligns my dual passions. The program offers a unique blend of business acumen and technical expertise, allowing me to explore the dynamic intersection of these two disciplines. This path has not only deepened my understanding of how technology can transform business processes, but also equipped me with the skills to drive innovation and efficiency in the modern business landscape.

What has been something you have found pleasantly surprising about your experience at NIU?
The “Huskie family." From the moment I stepped onto campus, NIU wrapped me in a warmth I never expected — a home away from home. But what truly amazed me? How NIU cares. During those grueling stressful weeks, the campus would swoop in with surprise events, helping alleviate the stress students face. It wasn’t just fun; it felt like the university was saying, “We see you. You matter.”  And then there’s Huskie football — oh, the magic of that electric atmosphere at Huskie Stadium! The energy of the crowd, the camaraderie among students and the sense of pride in being part of the Huskie pack have been truly transformative. Coming from halfway across the globe, I barely knew what a touchdown was. Now? I am turning into an avid football follower. I even watched the Eagles' dominating performance in the last Super Bowl. Time here flies faster than a halftime show. As graduation nears, my heart aches, knowing this chapter is ending. But NIU didn’t just teach me — it changed me. I’ll forever carry its spirit and the roar of the crowd that taught me what community truly means.

How have you connected with other students to study for classes, meet new people or form new friendships?
University life is woven with countless friendship stories, and my experience is no exception. During my first weeks on campus, I encountered remarkable individuals who would become important parts of my journey. The most meaningful connections, however, blossomed through my campus job, where shared responsibilities created natural bonds beyond the classroom. Academics further strengthened these friendships — those late-night submission deadlines, team presentations and collaborative reports brought us together in ways casual socializing never could. There's something uniquely powerful about supporting each other through academic challenges while creating moments to celebrate and unwind afterward. They've supported me through both achievements and setbacks, offering perspective and encouragement when needed most. This reminds me of what Andy Bernard once wisely said, “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.”

Are you involved in any student organizations, mentoring programs or extra-curricular activities? If so, which ones? How have they added to your experience as a Huskie?
As a graduate student, I've found that time passes in the blink of an eye, with academic demands and other responsibilities often taking center stage. But I was once part of NIU CAUSE, which gave me the opportunity to connect with students who share similar values around community service. Additionally, I've participated in several departmental events, like the Business Olympics and graduate colloquium events. I'm particularly grateful to Dr. Biagio Palese for encouraging my involvement in these activities. These experiences have been both intellectually stimulating and personally rewarding, showing me a valuable dimension of university life beyond the classroom.

What NIU offices, departments or resources have helped you feel safe, supported and successful? And how?
My department, the Department of Operations Management and Information Systems (OM&IS) in the College of Business, feels like a place very close to my heart. Within the year I have been in the office premises, I made numerous memories with the faculty and staff. The coffee chats with professors were valuable, with tons of information as well as academic and career insights, and some were nothing short of laughter and joy. From the department chair to every staff member, I've consistently been welcomed with genuine warmth and support. What makes this environment truly special is how the department treats students as an extended family. The OM&IS department exemplifies what makes NIU special — it's a community where students can thrive both academically and personally, making it one of the most supportive environments across the entire university.

Who has been one of your favorite instructors/professors and why? What course did they teach?
At some point in our journey, we encounter someone who truly shapes the way we think, and for me, that person has been Dr. Biagio Palese. He teaches OMIS 482 and OMIS 681. His courses are ideal for anyone who loves analyzing data, and trust me, they’re rewarding and enjoyable. From the very beginning, he believed in me and gave me the incredible opportunity to work with him. This experience transformed my life forever. He pushed me beyond my limits, helping me break down the barriers I had built around myself. Together, we worked on improving and streamlining his teaching methods, making the learning experience more effective for his students. More than that, he also played a vital role in shaping my approach to academics and offering career insights. Dr. Palese is unlike any professor I’ve ever had. His passion for teaching is contagious. He invests countless hours preparing materials and ensuring his students succeed, and his enthusiasm never wavers. I am incredibly grateful for the profound impact he's had on my academic and personal growth. On a lighter note, our coffee chats are some of the best moments I’ve had, as our conversations seamlessly flow from one topic to another, covering everything under the sun. Dr. Palese is the go-to person for an Italian espresso in the department, and over time, I’ve developed a taste for it, too. The lessons I’ve learned from him will stay with me for the rest of my career. I consider myself privileged to have crossed paths with such an inspiring individual.

How have you benefited by attending class regularly?
Attending classes regularly has been a transformative experience for me, and I highly recommend it to everyone. By being present in class, I've not only deepened my understanding of the material, but also fostered meaningful connections with my peers and professors. The classroom environment is where abstract theories come alive through real-world examples, making learning more engaging and relevant. Professors often share different perspectives that are invaluable when experienced firsthand, which has significantly improved my academic performance and opened doors to new opportunities. Regular attendance has also helped me develop discipline and a consistent routine. This routine has been instrumental in honing my time-management skills, which are essential for balancing university life and beyond. By sticking to a schedule, I've been able to combat procrastination and stay on top of my coursework. Attending classes regularly is more than just a requirement; it's an opportunity to grow academically, professionally and personally. So, I encourage everyone to make the most of this experience and see the positive impact it can have on their academic journey.

Where is your favorite spot on campus or in the community? Why are you drawn to it?
My favorite spot on campus is undoubtedly the serene pond behind Barsema Hall, known as "Dad's Pond." It offers a breathtaking view, especially during fall evenings. As the sun sets, casting a warm glow over the landscape, the sound of water gently lapping against the shore creates a soothing melody. The sight of geese heading home after a long day, their V-formations silhouetted against the vibrant sky, is a moment of pure peace. After a long day, this spot is my sanctuary, where I can unwind and let nature's calm wash over me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I find solace in this peaceful haven, where the stresses of the day seem to melt away. In contrast, during the winter months, the Holmes Student Center (HSC) becomes my go-to spot. The HSC is always bustling with activity, from morning till late at night, making it the perfect place to hang out with friends or enjoy some bowling.

What advice would you give to a student who is researching colleges to apply to?
Selecting the right college is perhaps the most pivotal investment you'll make for your future. As someone who's walked this path, I've learned that this decision shapes not just your education, but your entire professional trajectory and personal development. I recommend looking beyond those flashy websites and rankings. As they say, don’t judge a book by its cover. Investigate what truly matters: Does the program excel specifically in your area of interest? Are professors active in the field that fascinates you? Do alumni secure positions you aspire to? Schedule coffee chats with current students — their unfiltered perspectives will reveal truths no brochure can. If you want to keep a tab on financial considerations, examine scholarship opportunities and assistantships, and calculate living expenses in the surrounding area. A “prestigious” program that leaves you with crushing debt may ultimately limit your options more than a well-funded experience at a less renowned institution. Above all, understand that attending college is an investment in an environment that will change you, not merely a way to acquire credentials. The real return on your investment is produced by the mentors you'll meet and the peers who will push you, making you ready to meet the real world.

Why is a college education important to you?
For me, a college education has had a significant influence. It broadened my horizons well beyond my expectations and opened my eyes to a world of opportunities. My ability to think critically has grown to be my greatest strength, allowing me to handle challenging situations in both my personal and professional life. My collegiate relationships have grown into a strong network that has given me access to opportunities I never would have imagined. I was forced to step outside of my comfort zone in college, which gave me the courage to follow my dreams and helped me identify strengths I was unaware I had. In the end, my college education has given me the information and abilities that will serve as the cornerstone of a rewarding and significant profession.

What strategies do you use to manage your time between the responsibilities of school, work, friends and family?
As an international student, balancing the demands of school, work, friends and family requires me to be adaptable. I prioritize based on the tasks I have in my plate, allocating specific time blocks for various commitments to stay organized. Practicing self-care through activities that recharge, be it a walk, playing badminton, hitting the gym or spending time with loved ones, is crucial for destressing myself and maintaining emotional well-being. These strategies enable me to thrive academically while balancing work responsibilities and nurturing meaningful connections across borders.

How do you stay informed about events and services that are available on campus?
Staying informed about events and services on campus is essential for making the most out of NIU. To stay up to date, I regularly check the NIU events calendar, which provides a comprehensive list of university events, from academic to cultural activities. Additionally, I rely on the weekly announcement emails sent to students and staff, which highlight important news, upcoming events and professional opportunities. I also follow many of the university departments on Instagram, where they often share updates, reminders and behind-the-scenes insights into campus life. This combination helps me stay connected to the vibrant community at NIU.

What do you do to relax or recharge?
To relax and recharge away from the demands of academics, I've developed a balance of activities that nourish different aspects of my well-being. Physical movement is essential for clearing my mind — I heavily rely on badminton at the NIU Recreation Center. It's my perfect stress reliever, allowing me to improve my focus. I also take contemplative walks through campus and nearby natural areas. There's something about the peaceful scenery around NIU that offers tranquility. Whenever I feel I need a complete reboot, I visit the nearby temple that serves as my spiritual haven. These visits help me flush out negative energy and restore my sense of calm and purpose. This combination of practices creates the balance I need to maintain my energy and focus throughout the academic year.

Please tell us about your job and hobbies.
I’ve had the opportunity to work in multiple roles on campus, which have been some of my most rewarding experiences. I served as a teaching assistant for OMIS 482 and 681, worked with the physical therapy department at the College of Health and Human Sciences, and took on various other roles. These experiences have given me exactly the kind of exposure I was looking for. I am currently working with Dr. Palese on a research project to leverage agentic AI in academics. Besides the hobbies I mentioned in the earlier questions, I love to read and watch a lot of sports, and I do binge watch sometimes.
