What did you want to be when you were growing up? Are you pursuing that as a major, or have you taken another path?
I was like every other kid growing up. I think my parents knew that I was destined to either become a first responder or to be in the military. 

What is your major (and/or minor) and why did you decide on this course of study?
My major is political science with an emphasis in international politics. I decided on this course of study because I thought it was very interesting and helpful toward my career. I am getting my degree to advance my career in the Army. I have been in the Army National Guard since I was 18, and I deployed to Afghanistan when I was 19. While I was overseas, I decided to transfer to NIU. 

What has been something you have found pleasantly surprising about your experience at NIU?
Most of my teachers have been able to manage virtual learning very well and keep classes informative and interesting.

How have you connected with other students virtually to study for classes, meet new people or form new friendships?
Yes, I have been able to. We have been making group chats in classes and getting to know everyone. 

Who has been one of your favorite instructors/professors and why? What course did they teach?
Aarie Glas, an international relations professor. His lectures are very interesting. He is very nice and super helpful.

Where is your favorite spot on campus or in the community? Why are you drawn to it?
I like the Holmes Student Center because of the nice outdoor areas in the warmer months.

What advice would you give to a student who is applying to colleges?
I would tell them that college is definitely a challenge and to not quit because it will be worth it in the long run. 

Coming to college, what is something that you have had to learn to do differently?
I would say that you have to learn how to manage your time better in college. Keeping a balance between schoolwork and free time is super important, too. You'll get burnt out really fast if you don't. 

What do you do to relax or recharge?
I go to the gym and spend time outdoors.
