If you attended college, were you a first-generation student? If so, what advice would you offer to current first generation students?
Use campus resources like academic support centers and first-generation programs, build a strong support network by connecting with mentors and peers, and proactively manage your time and finances. It is also important to stay organized, get involved in campus life through student organizations and be proud of the accomplishment of being the first to attend college.

Describe your typical day—what do you do while at work?
A typical day for a director of financial planning and analytics is a strategic and dynamic blend of data analysis, collaboration and team leadership. While the daily routine can vary depending on the situations that arise and financial cycle, a significant portion of the time is spent guiding the financial future of the organization, not just reporting on the past.

What do you like about working at NIU?
What I enjoy most about working at NIU is the people. Across departments, there’s a shared commitment to helping students succeed. It’s also rewarding to be part of an institution that values continuous improvement and recognizes the work that goes into making that happen.

What advice would you give to students currently attending NIU?
Take advantage of the resources around you: tutoring, advising, mentoring, career services — all of it. It’s easy to focus only on classes, but your experiences outside the classroom can shape your path just as much. Stay curious, build relationships with your professors and don’t be afraid to change direction as you learn more about yourself.

What is important for students to know about the office/department that you work in? What student services does your office provide?
The College of Health and Human Sciences provides coordination and support for students, faculty and staff across the college’s academic programs. We help students connect with advising, internships, research opportunities and campus resources that enhance their academic and professional experience. Our goal is to make sure students have the tools and information they need to succeed at NIU and beyond.

In what ways do you see your colleagues help student success?
I see my colleagues go above and beyond for students every day. Whether it’s taking extra time to help them navigate a tough situation, connecting them to resources or simply offering encouragement, everyone truly cares about student success. It’s inspiring to work with people who are so dedicated to helping students reach their goals.

What is your favorite memory of NIU?
One of my favorite memories is seeing the NIU community come together for events that celebrate our students and programs. There’s a real sense of pride and teamwork that shines through, and it reminds me how special it is to be part of this community.

What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the ways I’ve been able to help our college run more smoothly and support others in their work. Whether that’s improving processes, helping new staff get settled or finding solutions to keep things moving forward, it’s rewarding to know my efforts make a difference for both colleagues and students.

What fulfills you personally and professionally?
What fulfills me most is knowing that the work I do helps others succeed. I enjoy being part of a team that values collaboration and problem-solving, and it’s rewarding to see how our efforts make a difference for students, faculty and staff. Personally, I find fulfillment in continuous learning and in knowing that what I do each day contributes to something bigger. Professionally, I value being part of a community that recognizes effort and encourages growth. Personally, I’m fulfilled when I can look back and see the positive impact of consistent contributions, both big and small.

Which of NIU’s core values align with your own?
I strongly connect with NIU’s values of service and integrity. I believe in showing up for others, following through on commitments and treating everyone with respect. Stewardship also stands out to me: being thoughtful about how we use time, resources and opportunities to support students and colleagues.

Have you contributed to any NIU Foundation fundraising campaigns such as the Day of Giving or Huskies United? If yes, why did you decided to support NIU?
I’ve supported NIU fundraising efforts like the Day of Giving because I believe in the university’s mission and the impact it has on students. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps strengthen programs and resources that open doors for students and support their success. Huskie Harvest is a program I've enjoyed donating both time and resources to. The program continues to grow: Over 21,000 pounds of food has been recovered and transformed into over 24,000 meals for food-insecure NIU students.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? Are you currently doing it? If not, what changed your path?
It wasn’t until high school that I was really exposed to accounting and bookkeeping. That’s when I realized it was something I enjoyed. Over time, I’ve come to understand that there’s much more to the work than just numbers. Many people who know me have heard me say, “There’s more to the story than just the numbers,” and that perspective continues to guide me as I grow and learn in higher education.

Are you participating in or have you participated in any NIU shared governance or professional development groups? If so, how has your participation enhanced your experience as an employee?
Yes, I’ve participated in Operating Staff Council, the NIU Staff Professional Development Academy and the Northern Illinois Federal Credit Union. Being involved has given me the chance to learn from colleagues across the university, share ideas and better understand how decisions are made. It has enhanced my experience by helping me grow professionally, build connections and feel more engaged in the broader NIU community.

Are you a member of or hold a position within a professional or community organization? If so, what organization? What is the purpose of that organization and how does being part of this organization benefit you in your role at NIU?
Yes, I’m a member of ACPA - College Student Educators International. The ACPA transforms higher education by creating and sharing influential scholarship, shaping critically reflective practice, and advocating for equitable and inclusive learning environments. Being part of it allows me to stay connected with peers, learn about best practices and bring new ideas back to my role at NIU. It’s a valuable way to grow professionally while contributing to the work we do for students and the college.

What do you do to relax or recharge?
I like to relax and recharge by spending quality time with my family, often at amusement parks enjoying roller coasters together. I also find that learning and exploring new ideas, like through my Ed.D. studies, helps me reset and stay energized both personally and professionally.

Do you have any hobbies or interesting personal pursuits you're involved with in your spare time?
I’m currently enrolled in the Northern Illinois University executive weekend Ed.D. in higher education, where I’m focused on continuing my personal and professional growth. Outside of academia, I’ve developed an appreciation for roller coasters, a fun passion that brings my family together and creates shared moments of joy.
