About Internal Audit

Our Mission

Internal Audit provides an independent and objective assurance, advice and insight to assist the Board of Trustees and university management in the effective discharge of their oversight, management and operating responsibilities.

Our Location

Internal Audit is located on the NIU Campus, in Lowden Hall.

Lowden Hall was named after Frank O Lowden, who served as the Governor of Illinois from 1917 to 1921. Governor Lowden was most known for reorganizing the Illinois state government to make it run more efficiently. He also instituted a budgeting system which led to better oversight of the spending of taxpayer dollars. The namesake for our building makes it the perfect home for NIU Internal Audit!

HELP Student Employment Program

Huskie Experience in Learning and Professionalism (HELP) is a paid, multiyear student employment program in the Internal Audit office. It provides accountancy students entering their junior year with meaningful professional experience, mentoring and more.
