Advocacy and Education

We provide programs, training and resources to help connect, support and empower campus and the community.

For more information, contact us at gsrc@niu.edu.

  • Programs and workshops: We offer recurring signature events that explore and support diverse identities. A variety of programs that center women and gender are also available upon request.
  • Ally training: We provide training sessions that help participants develop into effective allies to people who are LGBTQ+.
  • Terminology guide: We've compiled a list of terms and definitions focused on gender, sexual/romantic orientation and related topics to promote the use of inclusive language.
  • Name and gender-marker change resources: We offer information to help you change your legal name and/or gender marker.

The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning also provides a toolkit to help faculty and staff support LGBTQ+ students.
