About the Faculty Academy on Cultural Competence and Equity

The Faculty Academy on Cultural Competency and Equity (FACCE) is an opportunity for all faculty and instructors at NIU to join an engaged learning community of educators and scholars in professional development and enhanced classroom praxis. Participants will be able to join either a monthly workshop series during the academic year or a weeklong institute during the summer. Workshops and the institute focus on learning from our NIU faculty experts on how to enhance their classrooms and embed inclusive pedagogical practices, skills, and teaching knowledge that creates accessible academic environments for all current and future Huskies.

With the goals of enhancing teaching skills, enhanced pedagogical knowledge, and closing equity gaps within the classroom setting while building a community of professional practice, FACCE focuses and explores pedagogies related to:

  • Culturally responsive and culturally sustaining pedagogies
  • Fostering transformational learning environments
  • Centering humanizing pedagogies and practices
  • Queer and trans pedagogies
  • Equity in teaching
  • Anti-racism practices and curricular design
  • And much more

Participation is voluntary; however, participants must attend at least seven sessions during the academic year to receive a Certificate of Completion. Participants may also elect to complete the Summer Academy to be held shortly after the close of the spring semester.

All workshops during the academic year will be conducted on campus from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Fridays. Registration is required for each session and interested educators can view the schedule and register
