Program Participation

Students who could benefit from the CHANCE program are both recruited to apply to NIU and selected through our holistic admissions process. 

CHANCE Program Participants will:

  • Take Ownership of Success – Demonstrate commitment by actively managing academic responsibilities, setting goals, and staying accountable for personal growth.
  • Engage Fully in Opportunities – Participate in CHANCE-sponsored workshops, mentoring, and academic support services to enhance college success.
  • Seek Support Proactively – Utilize available resources, such as counselors, tutors, and peer networks, to address challenges and maximize potential.
  • Demonstrate Resilience and Dedication – Overcome obstacles with perseverance, maintain a strong work ethic, and stay focused on long-term success.   
  • Uphold Program Participation Requirements – Complete necessary forms, attend required meetings, and fulfill commitments to remain an active  and engaged CHANCE student.

Interested in joining CHANCE? If you're an admitted first-year student simply fill out a form to indicate your interest, and our team will review your information.

This form can be completed by anyone, including high school counselors, parents, faculty and staff, to identify a student who could benefit from the CHANCE Program.
