Niechen Chen, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Niechen Chen's research advances digital manufacturing through artificial intelligence and data-driven methods. His work spans CAD/CAM, computer-aided process planning and Industry 4.0, with a focus on integrating machine learning and AI into manufacturing systems to improve efficiency, precision, and decision-making. He has led projects on AI-based computer-aided manufacturing and data-driven process improvement, bridging engineering design and intelligent automation. His research has received support from the National Science Foundation, the Illinois Innovation Network and NIU’s Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships. Through both scholarship and teaching, he contributes to the development of next-generation smart manufacturing technologies.
