Associate Professor
Andrea L. Guzman has been fundamental in formalizing human-machine communication research within communication and media studies and supporting its international growth. Her research focuses on people’s interactions with and perceptions of artificial intelligence, including voice-based assistants, generative AI and the implications of AI for individuals, organizations and society. As a former journalist, Guzman also examines the integration of AI into journalism and media industries and as an educator for nearly two decades, has been helping faculty, administrators and students navigate the pedagogical and ethical implications of AI in the classroom.

Guzman is lead editor of The SAGE Handbook of Human-Machine Communication and editor of Human-Machine Communication: Rethinking Communication, Technology, and Ourselves.
