The Bachelor of Arts in theatre studies program at NIU’s School of Theatre and Dance offers a broad-based curriculum focused on developing the total theater artist. Our majors are trained in all aspects of theater, including directing, playwriting, design and technology, theater management, dramaturgy and criticism. We cultivate a wide variety of theatrical experiences, helping young practitioners to discover their true passions and talents.
Our theater studies degree prepares future leaders for the radically changing landscape of the entertainment industry by anticipating new and interdisciplinary technologies as well as addressing social justice issues, finding new and exciting ways to achieve equitable representation for all. As artist-scholars, students will learn to harness their creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills while preparing for diverse careers in the theater and entertainment industries, advanced academic theater study and beyond.
The B.A. degree in theatre studies is an open admission program.
