Textbooks and Course Materials Information for Students

It’s easy and affordable to get your course materials from Huskie Books and Gear. We have options you won’t find anywhere else, like the ability to purchase books/supplies using financial aid — no credit card required.

Huskie Books and Gear is managed by Follett Higher Education, a nationally recognized leader in the college textbook industry.

Convenient Online Ordering

Affordable Options

Digital and Rental Textbooks

We offer a range of digital and rental textbooks, which cost significantly less than new books:

  • Rental books: about 55-80% less than new books
  • Digital books: about 50-60% less than new books

Our risk-free rental policy allows highlighting and note-taking, as well as the ability to convert a rental book to a purchase, if desired.

Pay with Financial Aid

If you have financial aid, you can use your OneCard ID to charge up to $700 of books and supplies to your bursar account — including computers, printers/ink, software, Apple products and more. Learn more about the book charge program.

Price-match Program

We offer a price-match program for course materials (including used books) with Amazon and Barnes and Noble online stores. The difference in price is provided on a store gift card you can use to buy other course materials/supplies.

We do not price match online marketplace prices, such as Chegg, Amazon Prime and Amazon warehouse deals.

Textbook Formats

Textbooks come in several formats:

  • Physical textbooks can have hard or soft covers. Or, they can be loose-leaf, which means a stack of loose pages you put in a binder.
  • Digital textbooks are sent to you by email. The email contains a link and a code to access the materials online.
  • Access cards are made of thin cardboard, usually 5-by-7 inches in size. They tell you how to access the materials online.

If you have a choice of format, choose the option that best fits your learning style and budget.

Returns

Our return policy aligns with the deadlines for adding/dropping a class. To learn how to return a book, read the Huskie Books and Gear return policy

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what books I need?

You can check the syllabus for each course to see what materials are required. Or, visit the textbook section of our online store and enter your Z-ID number preceded by a zero to see a complete list of required materials.

When should I buy my books?

You should wait until your professor provides the syllabus through email or Blackboard. It will indicate the required materials. Sometimes, professors provide electronic copies of readings and sometimes they require you to buy a physical copy. Then, order your materials as soon as you see them posted in our online store. In general, your professors will expect you to have the materials on the first day of class.
