Huskie Bus Line

The Huskie Bus Line is operated by the City of DeKalb. It offers a variety of routes with many stops, both on and off campus. If you're a current NIU student, faculty or staff member, you can ride the bus for free by showing your NIU OneCard. Huskie Bus Line also offers the Huskie Safe Line when you need to travel late at night.

If you need to travel to Chicago, take the Elburn Shuttle to the Elburn Metra station. The cost is free for NIU students, faculty and staff with your OneCard.

Huskie Safe Line

We’ll help you stay safe when you need to travel late at night. Route 11 of the Huskie Bus Line, known as the Huskie Safe Line, operates seven days a week, from midnight to 7 a.m. On Sundays, service starts at 10 p.m. The bus makes dozens of stops around campus and is free for NIU students.

Elburn Station

Elburn Shuttle

Route 12 of the Huskie Bus Line goes to the Metra train station in Elburn, the nearest station from which to travel to Chicago and the western suburbs.

The Elburn Shuttle Route 12 runs seven days a week with five morning departures and five evening departures, Monday through Friday. Morning and afternoon departures are also available on Saturday and Sunday. 

Tickets are free for NIU students and employees with an NIU OneCard or $.50 for the general public. The shuttle picks up and drops off passengers at Locust Street and Normal Road, with additional stops in downtown DeKalb and Cortland.
