The Presidential Commission on the Status of Minorities was established by the University President to assure that Northern Illinois University consistently and comprehensively will reflect, sponsor, mandate and totally support action designed to enhance the status of minorities. The goal is to advise the President on the status of minority students, faculty, and staff and make recommendations to improve the quality of life and opportunity for minorities at Northern Illinois University.
On Saturday, March 21st NIU’s Presidential Commission on the Status of Minorities (PCSM) will host a regional conference entitled “Diversity: Strengthening the Pillars of Community” on the NIU Naperville campus. The conference is intended to bring together students, staff, faculty and members of the community from the NIU region to look at issues related to diversity. Featured speakers include opening speaker Jerry Blakemore, Vice President and General Counsel, Northern Illinois University; Johnathan Lackland, Director of Government Relations, Illinois State University and a multi-media presentation by Ariel Luckey from San Francisco on Immigration, Assimilation and White Privilege. Northern Illinois University undergraduate, graduate, and professional students; faculty, supportive professional staff and civil service staff; and academic units, offices, programs or organizations are invited to submit nominations for the Deacon Davis Award by noon on March 17, 2015.
