Web Strategy and Support

The NIU website shapes many people’s impressions of the university. The web team strives to provide an accurate, engaging online presence for NIU.

By ensuring site visitors have a positive experience, we build trust with them and promote continued interaction with the university. Our efforts also extend the reach of the knowledge and artistry generated at NIU, and we’re proud to amplify fellow Huskies’ efforts.

We work with colleagues across campus who help update the websites in their areas. These department web contacts have different roles: coordinator, manager or administrator.

Important Information about PDFs and Documents

Most content serves your audience best in accessible formats like HTML webpages or Word documents, which are mobile-friendly, easier to navigate and simple to update.

With the April 2026 ADA compliance deadline approaching, these formats also ensure full accessibility compliance.

The web team only posts PDFs that meet specific criteria, such as legal compliance requirements. Overall accessibility should be addressed when creating content, which often eliminates the need for PDFs and time-consuming remediation. Even PDFs that pass automated accessibility checks may not provide a truly accessible experience for users with disabilities.

For guidance on choosing the best format for your content types, see our content development recommendations.
