Gender and Sexuality Resource Center temporarily moving.
The GSRC will temporarily move locations and operate from the third floor of the Health Services Building starting Monday, February 19. We anticipate this temporary move will be for the remainder of the spring semester.
We will still be hosting the many programs, events, and trainings that this campus knows and loves, including our Black Heritage Month collaborative event on Friday 2/23, LGBTQ+ and Trans Ally Trainings, events for Women's History Month and more! Now is also a great time to save the date for the 28th Annual Pride Awards and the 15th Annual Lavender Graduation Ceremony.
To find us in our new location, enter through the Health Services Building, main doors (facing Wirtz Hall), and take the elevator or stairs to the third floor. We also are thrilled to join our neighbors currently on the floor and appreciate their warm welcome.

New F&A Rates for Sponsored Programs
The federal government recently approved new F&A (also known as indirect cost) rates for federal sponsored programs at Northern Illinois University. Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) will begin applying these rates to new proposals and awards received on or after March 1, 2024, and with a budget start date on or after July 1, 2024. There will be no change to F&A rates on existing awards.
The on-campus rates for Organized Research and Instruction will increase from 49% to 52% and the rate for Other Sponsored Activities will change from 32.9% to 37%. All off-campus programs will continue to use the 26% rate.
Please visit the SPA Newsblog for more information.

Faculty encouraged to add their voice through committees of the university.
University-level committee service provides an important opportunity for NIU faculty to take an active role in shared governance. It is through shared governance that faculty can impact campuswide academic decisions, help set the directions of NIU for the future and contribute to the promotion of academic freedom and productivity.
Soon, the administration of NIU’s colleges and University Libraries will reach out to offer these opportunities to serve on a wide variety of committees, councils and boards for terms to begin fall 2024. Faculty are encouraged to engage in the process and consider representing their college or University Libraries in this way.
Shared governance rests on the idea that the healthy functioning of our university is the shared responsibility of faculty, administration, staff, students and the board of trustees. Serving on these committees is one way for faculty to directly contribute to the health of our university.

Travel Voucher update: New allowance maximums for odging and Memal er diem.
Effective Feb. 1, 2024, allowance maximums for lodging and meal per diem should be verified through the GSA Per Diem Rates in accordance with 80 Ill. Adm. Code 3000.400, 3000.500, 3000.510 and Appendix A. You may search per diems by selecting the state and city, or by ZIP code to find the applicable rates. Per diem on travel days is still based on time of travel using the quarter system per HETCB allowances. The General Services Administration (GSA) may modify these rates periodically throughout federal Fiscal Year 2024. When using the GSA meal per diem rate tables, please do not include the incidental expenses in amounts submitted for reimbursement. The policy for day trip meal allowances for reimbursement of breakfast and/or dinner has not changed. If you have any questions, please contact Accounts Payable Services at 815-753-1514 or email AccountsPayableSrvs@niu.edu.
