Online Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.)

Principals are visionary leaders with the skills and knowledge to effectively implement and manage educational environments. Our part-time, primarily synchronous online program will prepare you to obtain a principal endorsement on your professional educator license. Held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, courses run for 14 weeks in the fall and spring semesters and eight weeks in the summer, allowing you to complete the program in six consecutive semesters.

How to Apply
A new cohort begins every fall. The application deadline is August 1.
We offer conditional admission to the first semester of our program. You can apply for conditional admission if you have:
- Valid and current Illinois professional educator license
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (preferred)
- For teachers: data providing evidence of two years of student growth and learning within the last five years
- For school support personnel: a minimum of two years of related experience in an educational setting with data providing evidence of two years of student growth and learning within the last five year
You’ll apply through the Graduate School. Your application materials will include:
- Transcripts
- Contact information for two individuals to submit letters of recommendation

Will My Credits Transfer?
NIU accepts transfer credit from regionally accredited institutions of higher education. You may be able to transfer in up to 15 credits, upon review of your transcript by the department chair (or designee).
