Definitions

For the purposes of IREP, by electronic portfolio, we mean an organized collection of electronic artifacts held together with an overview or reflection that explains the significance of those artifacts with respect to a specific goal or goals. The goal(s) may differ from person to person, from program to program, or from institution to institution.

Portfolios might include some or any of the following:

  • Documenting learning for specific program or general education outcomes
  • Assessing performance/learning for personal, class, program or institutional purposes (formative and/or summative)
  • Development of on online professional identity for career purposes
  • Enhancing learning through the metacognition afforded by reflection
  • Providing a catalyst for or documentation of personal, programmatic or institutional change
