Awards and Scholarships
Our awards and scholarships can help cover the cost of studying abroad. You can apply for multiple scholarships at the same time.
Please note: if you are applying for Toledo or Aix-en-Provence, a scholarship is automatically awarded to the program so you do not need to apply for a scholarship.
Application deadline: February 20
InterPro Translation Solutions FLRP Study Abroad Fund
Eligibility requirements:
- Full-time, degree-seeking student with language major or minor.
- FLRP resident and active participant for at least one year.
- Sophomore status (must have completed at least 30 credit hours).
- Minimum 3.00 overall GPA.
- Minimum 3.25 GPA in language major or minor.
Please note: Recipients must maintain a full workload while abroad.
Karen Kadens Foreign Language Scholarship and Travel Fund
Eligibility requirements:
- Language major or minor.
- Minimum 3.00 overall GPA.
- Minimum 3.25 GPA in language major or minor.
- Demonstrated motivation for language learning and academic record.
Michael Morris Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility requirements:
- Full-time, degree-seeking student pursuing a language major or graduate certificate.
- Good academic standing with a minimum 3.00 GPA.
- Students in the educator licensure program who are enrolled in or have passed ILAS 301 are preferred.
Please note: Recipients must maintain a full class load while abroad.
WLC Study Abroad Scholarship
Eligibility requirements:
- Participant in faculty-led study abroad program to China, France, Germany or Spain.
- Language majors and minors preferred.
WLC Study Abroad Scholarship for Minors
Eligibility requirements:
- Undergraduate minoring in Chinese, Japanese or Russian.
- Minimum 3.00 overall GPA.
- Must have completed at least one semester at NIU.
- Students who have never studied abroad are preferred.
Joseph Suhadolc Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility requirements:
- Incoming freshman, transfer student or continuing student.
- German majors or those minoring in Russian or German preferred.
- Minimum 3.00 overall GPA.
- Minimum 3.25 GPA in language major or minor.
- Demonstrated motivation for language learning and academic record.
