Diversity and Inclusion

Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Statement

The faculty, staff and instructors in the Department of World Languages and Cultures stand in solidarity with our AAPI communities.

As representatives of higher education, we strive to promote equity, diversity, and the inclusion of people of all ethnic backgrounds and all experiences in our classrooms and communities. We condemn the increasing violence, acts of racial prejudice, and discrimination committed against Asian and Pacific Islander communities in this country. These violent acts are antithetical to the core values that we promote in our communities and do not reflect our ideology of fostering inclusion in our classrooms. We recognize that we must continue to work for social justice and positive change both in and outside our classrooms. The Department of World Languages and Cultures is committed to educating not only our students but also our community at large about the utmost importance of social harmony and the need to stand in solidarity with our Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

It is our hope that all people, including our fellow colleagues, students, and community leaders, will join our efforts in making our communities a better place for the uncompromising inclusion of all.
