Distance Indonesian


Learn the Language from Anywhere on the Planet

Take a step into Indonesian culture with this beginning (non-credit) distance language course! No prior knowledge of the language is required. Instruction will be live and conducted by NIU Indonesian instructor Rahmi Aoyama.

Taught in Indonesian and English, this 20-hour, 10-week course is designed for students, professionals and others interested in learning beginning Indonesian in a flexible online format. Upon completion, students will be able to engage in conversation and use the language for both formal and informal daily activities.

Class size is limited to 15, with the schedule tailored to the availability of students and the instructor. Classes will begin the second week of February.

Four modules of Distance Indonesian (Indonesian 1, 2, 3 and 4) will be offered in spring 2020.

Beginning Level 1 to Beginning Level 4 modules will be offered in spring and fall, based on demand for each level.

Course Fees

$480 per module for 20 hours over 10 weeks
