Rahmi Aoyama

Rahmi Aoyama, Ph.D., is an Instructor of Indonesian at Northern Illinois University. A first-generation student who traveled abroad alone in pursuit of higher education, she holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University, an M.Ed. in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University, and a B.A. in English Literature from Universitas Bung Hatta in Indonesia. Her research focuses on instructional technology, language pedagogy, and the use of AI learning tools to enhance student skills and oral proficiency in less commonly taught languages. Dr. Aoyama has extensive experience coordinating international language programs, supervising Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants, and directing the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Indonesian Summer Program. She is passionate about advancing innovative, student-centered approaches to language learning and intercultural education.
