Academics

The Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality (CSWGS) offers interdisciplinary academic programs that, in the analysis of historical, social and cultural contexts, focus on:

  • Perspectives on gender, sexuality and power dynamics.
  • Understandings of labor, economics systems and migration.
  • Dynamics of historical and current political movements.
  • Impact of race, gender, ethnicity, age, social class, sexual orientation, ability, and other factors on lived experiences.

Our programs emphasize global awareness and explorations of sociohistorical systems, while while encouraging critical inquiry, reflection and self-expression.  In our courses, students examine historical and contemporary issues related to gender identity, power, citizenship, and contributions of women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) people, both within the U.S. and abroad.
