University Benefits Committee

Membership of University Benefits Committee
- The University Benefits Committee is directly responsible to the president and shall consist of a chair who shall be elected by and from members of the committee, two faculty members appointed by the president upon the recommendation of the Faculty Senate, two operating staff members appointed by the president upon the recommendation of the Operating Staff Council, two supportive professional staff members appointed by the president upon the recommendation of the Supportive Professional Staff Council, and one representative of the administration, appointed by the executive vice president and provost, the director of Human Resource Services or designee, and one member from the Committee on the Economic Status of the Profession (a committee of the Faculty Senate) as liaison. There shall be one ex officio member from the retired employees, appointed by the NIU Annuitants Association. In addition, the manager of Insurance and Employee Benefits and others who may be directly involved in the administration of employee benefits may assist the committee as resource personnel.
The chair shall be elected by and from members of the committee. The committee shall select a secretary from its membership at its first meeting in the fall. Term of office for faculty, supportive professional staff, and operating staff members shall be three years, staggered. Representatives of the administration shall serve until their successors are appointed.
- The duties of the committee shall be:
- To act as an advisory body to the president on any and all employee benefits pertaining to faculty and operating staff and supportive professional staff;
- To review present benefit plans and proposals received from the University Council, the Faculty Senate, the Operating Staff Council, the Supportive Professional Staff Council, and the committee itself, and to make recommendations to the president concerning employee benefits.
- Minutes and reports of the committee shall be sent to the president and to the members of the University Council.
