Membership for Teaching Assistant Training and Development Advisory Committee
A. Membership
The Teaching Assistant Training and Development Advisory committee will be composed of the following members:
1. One member of the graduate faculty from each college
in which graduate courses are taught; one additional graduate-faculty member
from the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences to achieve one from a laboratory-science discipline
and one from a non-laboratory-science discipline in that college.
2. One graduate teaching assistant from each college
in which graduate courses are taught; one additional graduate teaching
assistant from the College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences to achieve one from a laboratory-science
discipline and one from a non-laboratory-science discipline in that college.
3. A represenative of the Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center, appointed by the director of that center.
4. The faculty and student members will be appointed
by the Dean of the Graduate School, with the advice of the Graduate Council.
Faculty will be
appointed for renewable three-year staggered terms; student will be appointed
for renewable one-year terms. The appointments will include at least
one faculty member of the Graduate Council, with such member(s) serving
as liaison between the Committee and the Graduate Council.
5. The Committee is chaired by the Coordinator of the Graduate School's Office of Teaching Assistant Training and Development.
B. Duties
The duties of the Teaching Assistant Training and Development Advisory Committee are the following:
1. To advise the Coordinator of the Office of Teaching Assistant Training and Development, and the Dean of the Graduate School, on
a. training and development needs of the University's graduate teaching assistants;
b. programs and activities to address those needs;
c. assessment of the success of those programs and activities.
2. To advise the Dean of the Graduate School when the
Dean evaluates the performance of the Coordinator of the Office of Teaching
Assistant Training
and Development.
3. To recommend, to the Graduate Council or others, policy changes that will enhance the training and development of graduate teaching assistants.
4. To submit, near the end of the spring semester, an
annual report to the Graduate Council, indicating the Committee actions
for the academic year just
ending.
