Advanced Licensure Programs

Licensure programs that are offered only at the graduate level and that require a bachelor's degree as a prerequisite for admission are called "advanced Licensure programs." These programs typically lead to specialized Licensure in areas such as school administration and school services. Some advanced Licensure programs also require prior Licensure as a teacher and/or designated experience.

NIU offers 9 advanced certification programs that have been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and that, upon successful completion of the program, entitle a student to an Illinois certificate in the area.
