Students who have been automatically assessed the fee for the NIU Student Health Insurance Plan, and who maintain health insurance coverage elsewhere, may elect to waive participation in the Plan by completing the on-line waiver process using the link below. However, the university recommends that students carry the NIU Plan even if they maintain coverage elsewhere. The Student Health Insurance Plan is designed to supplement family health plans that do not cover 100% of medical costs because of deductibles, co-payment amounts, limitations on specific benefits (such as Mental Health), and out-of-network penalties.
