New Transfer Student Merit Scholarships
Once a student has been admitted to NIU as a freshman, they will automatically be considered for a merit scholarship. Some scholarships may require an interview or campus engagement activity to receive the full amount of the award.
Transfer students are eligible for merit scholarships, whether they enter in the fall or spring semesters.
To qualify for merit scholarships, students must meet all academic criteria including cumulative transfer grade point average. All work attempted at all colleges/universities attended will be used in this calculation.
Students will receive the highest level of scholarship for which they are eligible, but can only receive one transfer scholarship. Students who are eligible for a transfer scholarship and the legacy scholarship may receive both.
You must submit an application for admission and all required, official documents as early as possible to receive full consideration for transfer scholarships.
- October 1 for spring admission
- February 1 for fall admission
However, scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis as funds remain available.
