Operating Staff (Civil Service Employee) Dependent Endowed Scholarship General Information
To award financial assistance to children of Northern Illinois University operating staff (civil service) employees while attending NIU. This scholarship is made possible through funds presented by the NIU civil service employees' fund-raising activities.
Be a child of an NIU operating staff employee or operating staff retiree. The employee or retiree must have worked at NIU a minimum of two years.
Be a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree at NIU.
Meet all admission requirements of college, department, or program in which they plan to pursue a degree.
Complete the application form and submit a letter as instructed on the form.
Previous scholarship recipients may reapply. To be eligible for consideration the applicant must have an overall 2.5 GPA or higher.
Method of Selection
Dependents must go to the application website and apply on-line through Academic Works. All instructions for applying for the scholarship are there. All information will be confidential, and all items must be completed.
Applications will be screened by the Selection Committee.
Final selection of applicants rests solely with the Selection Committee.
Each applicant will be notified of the actions of the Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee consists of members of the operating staff appointed by the Operating Staff Council. No parent, guardian or relative of an applicant will serve on this committee.
The award of $1000 will be distributed equally in the fall and spring semesters only if the dependent is enrolled at NIU. Should the dependent not be enrolled at NIU at the time of disbursement, that portion or portions will be forfeited. The scholarship will be processed by NIU's Office of Student Financial Aid and applied to the student's Bursar account.
