2017 High School Invitational Exhibition

The School of Art and Design hosts the annual High School Invitational in the Jack Olson Gallery November 6-18.

The closing reception and award presentation is Saturday, November 18, 3-4 p.m.

Online entry submission October 2-20.

Options for Hand Delivery of Artwork

    Friday, October 27, 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, October 28 10 a.m.-noon
  • NIU Rockford Campus
    Friday, October 27, 3-6 p.m.
  • NIU Hoffman Estates Campus
    Friday, October 27, 3-6 p.m.
  • NIU Naperville Campus
    Friday, October 27, 3-6 p.m.

Artwork will be removed immediately after the closing reception.

All reasonable care will be given to artwork. Jack Olson Gallery and the NIU School of Art and Design are not responsible for any damages or loss that may occur while the work is on the premises.

Artwork Eligibility and Presentation

  • Each high school art teacher is invited to submit up to two pieces of student artwork
  • All works on paper must be matted using white matboard and have a rigid backing board
  • All works on canvas must be stretched
  • 2D work (including mat) must not exceed 24” x 32”
  • 3D work must not exceed 24” in width/depth, 48” in height and 50 lbs in weight
  • Works derived from a published source may be exhibited but will be eliminated from award consideration
  • Only work completed after January 1, 2017 is eligible

Artwork that does not meet these criteria will not be exhibited in the Jack Olson Gallery

Advisory

Copying old masters and magazine photos can be valuable for learning techniques and composition. However, many original compositions are covered by copyright laws and NIU School of School of Art and Design adheres to strict anti-plagiarism standards. Any artwork that is identified as derived from a published source will still be exhibited but eliminated from award consideration.
