Diversity at NIU College of Law

A group of mult-racial, multi-cultural NIU Law students.

At Northern Illinois University College of Law, we are committed to creating and supporting a diverse student body and faculty. This diversity serves to strengthen our collegial community and enhance the educational experience, as our students learn to effectively meet the needs of an ever-changing society by being exposed to varied perspectives.

If the legal field is to effectively serve a diverse population, legal education must be accessible to a diverse student body. As the only public law school in the Chicago area, NIU College of Law is uniquely positioned to increase accessibility by removing cost as an unnecessary obstacle to a quality legal education.

Please contact the Office of Admissions and Recruitment to learn more about the NIU College of Law Community.

Diversity in the News

Diversity Statement

NIU College of Law is strongly committed to facilitating access to the legal profession for members of traditionally underrepresented groups.  Among our goals is to counter the effects of societal discrimination, to increase the number of lawyers who will serve in communities that are currently underserved, and to obtain for our students the educational benefits that flow from a diverse faculty and student body.  We therefore recruit faculty and students who represent diverse communities and identities in our society based on gender, age, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, race, culture, ethnicity and physical ability.

Discover Law: A Commitment to Diversity in Law is a web campaign developed by The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for racially and ethnically diverse students to discover career opportunities in law and choose a path in undergraduate school to help them succeed.
