NIU’s Sophomore Days of Service (SDoS) give second-year students a chance to make an impact on campus and in the DeKalb community in a brief (two to five hour), one-time volunteer experience. We know that students often are looking to find a sense of purpose in their second year through their course work, their relationships, and their out-of-class activities. One way in which we discover purpose is by helping others who can benefit from what we can offer. In the process, we learn more about ourselves and the communities around us. Each SDoS begins with a quick orientation to the agency or group served, and ends with a brief reflection about the experience.
Sophomores have the opportunity to can earn money towards tuition by serving in one or more SDoS events and writing a brief reflection essay. This award is only available to sophomore students defined as a student enrolled in their second-year of college with between 30 and 59 credit hours.
