My Story:
Jeni Camery is a Senior Elementary Education major double minoring in Spanish and Dance Performance. During her time at NIU, Jeni has taken advantage of the many opportunities to get involved within NIU and the community. Freshmen year, Jeni was a senator on the Student Association Senate, volunteered at Conexion Comunidad through the Honors Program, and joined the social sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha. Sophomore year, Jeni decided to take on more responsibility and run for leadership positions. She was the Social Recreational officer for the Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honor Society, UNIV 101 Peer Instructor, Vice President of Membership Education of Alpha Sigma Alpha, and was the founder of the NIU Educators’ Club where she served as President the first year of the club.
Over the summer of 2011, Jeni participated in the Spanish Language and Culture Study Abroad Program in Toledo, Spain. Junior year Jeni decided to volunteer as a tutor for the children’s program at Safe Passage in DeKalb, volunteered for Special Olympics, and over spring break participated in Habitat for Humanity in Memphis, Tennessee. Jeni received the high honor of being one of the five recipients for the 2012 Forward, Together, Forward Scholarship.
This past summer, Jeni welcomed incoming students to NIU as an Orientation Leader. Currently, she is the secretary for Order of Omega, Vice President of Learning for the NIU Educators’ Club, and a Northern Lights Ambassador. Jeni has taken advantage of the many opportunities to get involved in various activities at NIU and is looking forward to taking what she has learned from these experiences into her future classroom.
