Northern Lights Ambassador Student Profile
Name: Chris Llyod
Major: Industrial & Systems Engineering
Hometown: Freeport, Illinois
Committee: Engaged Learning/ Civic Engagement
My name is Chris Lloyd and I am a junior Industrial and Systems Engineering student with an Emphasis in Engineering Management. I am very involved with the University Honors Program and am currently the President of the Honors Student Association, a University Honors Fellow, a Peer Mentor, a Peer Advisor, and the Student Liaison for the brand new CEET Honors Program. However, I am not only involved in the University Honors Program. I represent CEET as a Northern Lights Ambassador, a member of the Ambassadors Club, the secretary for the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and a member of the Dean’s List for every semester I have been here.
To get to where I am today, I started out as a student volunteer trying to help out where I could and join organizations that I knew both interested me and would better my future endeavors. The single most beneficial key to my success would be my involvement freshman year as an NI Guide (Now called Huskie Helper). This opened the door to many leadership positions such as a Tour Guide, Lead Guide, and Open House Coordinator which have shaped me in ways I hadn’t thought possible. What I like most about NIU is the fact that ANYONE can be successful no matter where you are from, your ethnic background, social status, etc. All you have to do is put forth an effort and TRY. I couldn’t be happier about my NIU story I have written so far and I am very excited to help current and incoming students write chapters of their own success stories.
