As Online Education and Health Advisor, Dr. Dawn Jones critiques e-mailed submissions of résumés, curriculum vitas, personal statements, cover letters, application essays, portfolios, and related job search materials from clients who commute, work full-time, or are otherwise unable to meet with counselors during regular working hours. She also proofreads and edits Career Services’ publications/handouts and conducts specialized workshops and training for staff members.
With over 25 years of career and personal counseling experience, Dr. Jones retired from NIU in June of 2006. Before retiring, she served as the Career Services liaison to the Colleges of Education and Health and Human Sciences, conducting workshops and counseling sessions for clients, and creating specialized job search materials for students and alumni. Presently, she works part-time, applying her broad base of practical experience in education and counseling. This is augmented by theoretical knowledge gained through completion of a doctorate in Adult Continuing Education with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Prior to coming to NIU, Dr. Jones worked as an agency counselor, community college educator, ABE/GED/ESL instructor, and a middle school/high school French teacher. Each of these positions has provided her with unique insight into the advisement of education and health services clients.
