UNIVERSITY
ASSESSMENT PANEL
Notes from Meeting of
5 February 2010
The sixth meeting of the University Assessment
Panel (UAP) for the 2009–2010 academic year was held on Friday, February
5, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in Altgeld 203.
Announcements
The annual Assessment Expo is set for March 19,
2010, and will be held in the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center. The flier
and registration form are available on the Office of Assessment Services Web site.
Status Report from the Center for Access-Ability
Resources (CAAR)
The status report from CAAR was discussed. Nancy Kasinski
and Jenifer Montag from the CAAR office were available to answer specific
questions and to further explain the services provided by CAAR. The report was
commended by the group for its thoroughness, format, and use of results.
Status Report from Recreation Services
Sandi Carlisle was in attendance to answer
questions about present and future assessment endeavors at Recreation Services.
A funding request in the amount of $3,000 was proposed for participating in a
national survey from The National Intramural Recreational Sports Association.
The cost is an approximation and was said to cover only the cost of survey
administration and not data analysis. The motion to approve funds up to $3,000 for
FY2010 was passed with one opposed. If the project cannot be conducted until
FY2011, the request for funding will have to be re-evaluated based upon the
availability of funds.
General Discussion of Status Reports
The status reports presented at this meeting
generated some concern over page length. Suggestions for a page limit and/or an
executive summary were made. A suggestion was also made to have departments or
units complete the rubric that is used by the UAP to evaluate status reports.
Annual Updates Report
Issues concerning the administration and
presentation of the Annual Updates Report were discussed. A suggestion to have
a checklist instead of a bulleted list was made to help programs ensure they
provide the necessary documents for total compliance.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m. The next
meeting of the UAP is scheduled for February 19, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to noon
in Altgeld 203.
