MATH 795 Syllabus

All students in MATH 795 shall attend at least seven presentations (seminar, colloquium talk, or conference address) in each semester and at the end of the second semester do one of the following:

  • Write a report on one of the talks attended and give a 40-minute presentation on another.
  • Write a report on one of the talks attended and make a poster on another.
  • Write two reports on talks attended, one of which should be detailed and contain expository information on the area of the talk.

Completion of two semesters of MATH 795 (one credit hour each semester) is one of the options available to students for satisfying the Research Tool Requirement of the Ph.D. degree. Satisfactory completion of the Research Tool Requirement is determined by the Graduate Studies Committee.
