Advisement

NIU provides information and support to certification candidates through an extensive advisement structure. Each department housing a certification program has identified faculty or professional supportive staff members who are responsible for working with prospective and current certification candidates to

  • ensure that they are knowledgeable about requirements and procedures;
  • help them plan a program of study that will result in eligibility for the desired certification; and
  • assist in resolving problems throughout their preparation program.

Prospective and current certification candidates are urged to seek out and work closely with an advisor. Current students should plan to meet with an advisor at least once each semester.
