A Professional Development School (PDS) is a partnership between professional education programs and a P–12 school. The PDS mission is to achieve higher student achievement, prepare new teachers, strengthen faculty leadership, and conduct research to improve the practice of teaching.
The DeKalb School District 428 and Northern Illinois University Professional Development School (PDS) partnership has been developed for the mutual benefit of the students, faculty, and staff of both District 428 and NIU.
The goal of the PDS partnership is to cultivate world-class student performance through research-based teaching and learning using redesigned teacher preparation programs, expanded clinical experiences, and enhanced managerial and leadership skills. Changes in curriculum, teaching methodologies, and professional development offer transformational opportunities for District 428 and NIU.
Through mutual respect, joint research, co-teaching, and shared decision-making, this partnership seeks to improve student performance and enhance the quality of teacher educators throughout the northern Illinois region.
