It has been the mission of the SA to promote and provide students with the opportunities that they need to make them successful while at NIU. These opportunities and experiences have been provided through programming from various organizations and from within the SA here at our university.
In the near future we would like to see the SA moving forward with student concerns. It is too often that students are not as strong as they could be when administrations change form year to year. Our goal is to leave this organization and the next administration a little stronger than when we found it so that the next group of leaders can carry the torch.
The SA was founded in 1968 to promote the welfare of students on NIU’s campus. 35 years later the organization’s purpose then and now is to voice the concerns and questions of the student body to the university administration. Student Association executive elections are held each spring semester through a campus wide election. Student Senate elections are held in the fall.
The SA provides a number of services and outlets whose goals are to provide the optimum support for the student body. The SA supports many campus events and activities through organizational funding. Funding is allocated through the SA to various organizations on campus that range from groups dedicated to providing art outlets and education on expression to groups which decide to form a rugby team or a hockey team, many different groups are on our campus.
