Plan B emergency contraception
The FDA has approved the Plan B emergency contraceptive pill to be distributed as a non-prescription medication. Students 17 yrs or older who are eligible to use the Health Services (HS) may now stop by the HS Pharmacy during normal Health Service hours, to purchase Plan B at a cost of $40.00 (subject to change). A governmental issued ID (driver's license, state or military ID, passport) must be presented. Please note that the NIU ID does not meet this requirement. Per university policy, cash, check, VISA, or MasterCard payment is required at the time of service.
Women under 17 yrs will need a prescription for emergency contraception. Please call 815-753-1311, Mon - Fri, 8 - 4:30, to speak with a nurse. On Saturdays, resources include the Emergency Contraception Hotline at 888-NOT-2-LATE (1-888-668-2528) and Planned Parenthood - www.plannedparenthood.org
