Quit Smoking Tips
  1. Set a QUIT date. Find a date that works best for you.
  2. Throw away all of your smoking paraphernalia (ashtrays, lighters, cases, etc.)
  3. Tell your friends and family you are quitting… ask for support.
  4. Write down your reasons for quitting and keep them on hand to help you stay focused.
  5. Plan ahead for dealing with cravings: have gum, mints, snacks or water on hand.
  6. Stay busy: do homework, take a walk, call a friend, go to a movie.
  7. Consider using nicotine replacement therapy, such as the gum or the patch, to help you stay on track. A non-nicotine medication, called Zyban, is also available (by prescription through your health care provider) to help you quit smoking.
  8. Use deep breathing to help you through cravings.
