Quit Smoking Tips
- Set a QUIT date. Find a date that works best for you.
- Throw away all of your smoking paraphernalia (ashtrays, lighters, cases, etc.)
- Tell your friends and family you are quitting… ask for support.
- Write down your reasons for quitting and keep them on hand to help you stay focused.
- Plan ahead for dealing with cravings: have gum, mints, snacks or water on hand.
- Stay busy: do homework, take a walk, call a friend, go to a movie.
- Consider using nicotine replacement therapy, such as the gum or the patch, to help you stay on track. A non-nicotine medication, called Zyban, is also available (by prescription through your health care provider) to help you quit smoking.
- Use deep breathing to help you through cravings.
