Attending college is a great investment in your future. Many students and families need assistance to help offset educational expenses. The NIU Student Financial Aid Office (SFAO) is pleased to assist students and their families in securing the resources needed to fund educational expenses. We are available through campus visits, phone, and email communications to support you in the pursuit of your academic goals at NIU.
You and your family have the primary responsibility of paying for college. But when those funds aren’t enough, you may need to look at other resources. The first step is to apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA and to utilize federal funds. Also, make sure to check into scholarship opportunities. If you’ve already done that and still need additional funding, a federal student loan (a loan guaranteed by the federal government) is your best option.
Never assume that you will not qualify for financial assistance. There are many types of financial aid available to help manage the cost of education, such as grants, loans, campus employment, and scholarship opportunities.
