Graduate Assistant

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the 2008-2009 academic year.

This is a full-time graduate assistantship (20 hours) reporting to the Director of the LGBT Resource Center and assisting with projects designed to enhance the university's services for LGBT students.

Application Requirements:

  • Admitted to NIU’s graduate school and enrolled in a graduate course of study.
  • Preference will be given to graduate students pursuing a degree in Counseling, Adult and Higher Education, but those pursuing in a closely related field or discipline at Northern Illinois University will be considered, as will those with specific LGBT-related experience.
  • In addition to a Graduate Assistant Application Form, applicants should submit a resume and a 1 to 2 page writing sample.

Preference will be given to complete applications received by 4:30 pm, February 27, 2008, however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Applicants who are prospective students in graduate programs in Counseling or Adult and Higher Education should attend the 2008 Graduate Student & Assistantship Recruitment Program on March 14-15, 2008. The two-day program introduces students to the CAHE graduate program, CAHE professors and Student Affairs staff members, and enables students to interview for graduate assistantships within the Division of Student Affairs.
