The Center for Latino and Latin American Studies is engaged in research, teaching and community projects that work towards achieving racial and gender equity and inclusion and upending white supremacy, racial violence and other systems of oppression. It is our goal to educate and empower our students to make change within their local, regional, and national communities.

Our interdisciplinary minor in Latino and Latin American Studies centers the history and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean and Latinxs in the United States.
Two of the required courses for the minor in Latino and Latin American Studies – LATS 100: Introduction to Latin American Studies and LATS 101: Introduction to Latinx Studies – count towards NIU’sHuman Diversity baccalaureate requirement.
