The Center for Latino and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) has been actively involved inVoces of a Pandemic, an oral history project in collaboration with the Voces of a Pandemic project of the Voces Oral History Center at the University of Texas at Austin.Voces of a Pandemicis a partnership among a growing number of institutions across the country, dedicated to recording, preserving and disseminating the unique perspectives of Latinos/as during this crisis. NIU joins Fundación Luis Muñoz Marín (San Juan, Puerto Rico); University of Nebraska at Omaha; University of California, Los Angeles; Rutgers University and the University of North Texas in giving voice to a population heavily impacted by the virus.
Interviews and data gathering are collected online via Zoom. Completed and processed interviews will be posted on the NIU Digital Library and theVoces Oral Historywebsite, accessible to researchers, journalists and the general public. Researchers will produce articles and reports based on the interviews, including pieces for the peer-reviewedUS Latina & Latino Oral History Journal(published by the University of Texas Press).
