Housing

It is up to you to secure your housing arrangements. NIU offers a wide variety of housing options.

On-campus Housing

Residence Halls

Residence halls are a great option for undergraduate students - very few graduate students live in the residence halls. Residence halls offer on-campus housing and meal plans for all students. Entering freshmen are required to live in these halls. Learn more about signing up for on-campus housing. Please be aware, if you sign a housing contract, you will be required to live in the residence halls. Students who change their mind and decide to live off campus will not be able to cancel their residence hall room.

Northern View Community Apartments

Northern View Community apartments are are another possibility for on-campus housing. These apartments are open to NIU students at least 20 years old or two years post high school graduation.

Off-campus Housing

NIU does not work with off-campus housing companies. If you're looking to live off-campus, you'll need to check out a DeKalb map and contact local property owners. You can consult the Northern Star Housing Guide for a listing of off-campus apartments.

Commuter and Off-Campus Programs also offers help finding off-campus housing.
