Is your student organization or department wanting to learn more about health and wellness? Counseling and Consultation Services and Student Wellness offer a variety of health and wellness programs and presentations for our campus community. If you are hosting an event of your own, you can also request to collaborate, counselor support or one of our therapy dogs to be at your event.
Our staff provides presentations, programs and workshops on various mental health and college student development topics. Presentation requests need to be made four weeks in advance. This allows us time to coordinate coverage for requests and other details. Please note, we are only able facilitate workshops on campus.
Program Topics and Descriptions
We do our best to meet program request needs for our campus community. Please review the presentation topics below and complete the form to make your request.
- A.S.K. Like a Huskie (50 minutes) – Students will learn to help a friend navigate mental health concerns with three steps: Ask, Support, and Keep in touch.
- Collaboration on an Event – For programs being planned or already planned that you'd like our team to be present at and/or help in planning.
- Counselor Support – For already scheduled programs or activities that may be triggering for some attendees and would benefit from having a counselor present to respond to a student who needs to process feelings that have come up while attending the event.
- CCS and Wellbeing Services Overview (15-30 minutes) – Looking to share mental health and wellness resources with your class, group, or organization? This presentation will provide a brief overview of what we offer at Counseling and Consultation Services and how to utilize these resources. We will also explore stress management tips and when to ask for help.
- Healthy Habits for Success (30-50 minutes) – Students will learn about the 4 healthy habits for student success: eating well, sleeping better, moving more, and connecting with yourself and others. We will explore strategies and tips to improve these habits, as well as discuss how healthy choices can increase their success in college. On-campus resources will be provided.
- Mental Health First Aid Training (5.5 or 7.5 hours) – A workshop that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or is in a crisis, like how traditional first aid helps someone with a physical injury. It is an evidence-based, early-intervention program that uses an action plan to guide you through recognizing signs of distress, providing initial support, and connecting people to professional help or other support.
- Mindfulness (45 minutes) – Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present in the moment without judgement. Learning and practicing this skill can help improve one's mental health and ability to manage stress. In this presentation, students will gain a better understanding of mindfulness through engaging in a variety of facilitator-led activities. Helpful resources will be provided.
- Self-care and Burnout (45 minutes) – Burnout occurs when prolonged stress is not well managed. Learning how to incorporate self-care into your daily life can help to lower your risk of becoming burnt out. In this presentation, we will identify the signs of burnout and explore a variety of self-care strategies and resources.
- Stress Management (50 minutes) – Students will gain a deeper understanding and increased awareness of their stress and ability to cope. We will explore a variety of coping strategies, helpful resources, and activities to improve their ability to manage stress. Lastly, students will be able to identify when to ask for help and how to connect with campus resources.
- Therapy Dog (30-60 minutes) – for already scheduled programs or activities that may benefit from a therapy dog's presence. We'll check with our therapy dog pack.
- Other (if selected, someone from our team will reach out to learn more) – For a program topic not listed here.
