Support History at NIU!

Welcome Back!

We're glad you stopped in! We trust that you enjoyed your years at NIU and that your history degree started you down the road to a successful career. We'd love to hear what you've been doing since graduation, so please take a few minutes to fill out our alumni information form. As funds from the state and federal government have declined over the decades, support from alumni like you is critical for us to continue to provide the high-quality education that you received. We hope that you will take a few more minutes to see how you can help. Please consider giving to the funds below. Any amount, no matter how small, will help.

Give to History!

Our Needs

Depending on where you give, your generosity will help support these vital missions of the NIU Department of History:

  • Scholarships for undergraduates that make college more affordable
  • Awards and prizes that recognize our student's achievements
  • Travel funds to support research for students and faculty
  • Campus visits by distinguished historians
  • Outreach to DeKalb, Northern Illinois and beyond

How to Help

Gifts to history should be made via the NIU Foundation. If you earmark your gift for the Department of History, it will allow us to support multiple areas. To make a general department give, visit the NIU Foundation and pick "Select a college or university wide program." Then scroll down to History.

More targeted gifts can be made to our established funds. To give to these funds, visit the NIU Foundation and select "Other." You will then need to enter the name of the fund. You may give either to the endowment itself, providing long-term support, or to the spendable account, allowing us to use your gift right away. For smaller gifts, we would appreciate your use of the spendable account.
