The NIU chapter of the national Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society is always recruiting for new scholarly members. Lambda Pi Eta is the National Communication Association’s Honor Society for undergraduate majors and minors in communication.
WNIJ (89.5 FM) is a National Public Radio-affiliated radio station located in DeKalb. While it operates out of the university, it maintains its independence as a news service, providing local content and NPR programming. NIU journalism students often attain internships through WNIJ.
The Northern Star is one of the top student newspapers in Illinois, as rated by the Illinois College Press Association. Since 1899, the paper has covered local stories at NIU and in the northern Illinois region, and given numerous students invaluable experience. Though the Star operates independently of the NIU Dept. of Communication, our students routinely work for the Star.
This is an event planning course where students review films, create electronic and print publicity and invite a guest speaker. The course culminates in a three day film festival on campus.
