The Visual Arts have served in all cultures and periods to document, motivate, memorialize, facilitate healing, critique and protest military action.

Exploring Aspects of War in and Through the Visual Arts considers views on war and military conflict from the perspective of the homefront, the battlefield and back home again.

Exhibition Proposals 

The NIU Art Museum’s Exhibition Advisory Committee accepts exhibition proposals throughout the year. The committee reviews the proposals once a year. The museum calendar is usually scheduled at least two years in advance, and we may retain your submission for future opportunities. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope if you wish your packet to be returned to you.

Gallery Specifications

The NIU Art Museum has three exhibition galleries including the north gallery, rotunda gallery and south gallery as well as administrative offices and art storage handling areas, not shown. Any deliveries of artwork are to be coordinated and scheduled with the assistant director and curator.

Closed during the summer, between exhibitions and during university holidays.
